Waste water treatment units

Washing wastewater treatment for a detergent and disinfectant manufacturing industry

Our customer, located in France, currently operates two plants. As a manufacturer and seller of chemical specialties, disinfectants, detergents, cosmetics, soaps and much more, they use large quantities of washing water every day to clean their production equipment. In order to improve the management of their industrial effluents, the client company contacted us to develop a physico-chemical formulation adapted to the types of contaminants present in their wastewater.

NISKAE, the solution for demineralizing wastewater and adjusting pH

Currently rich in heavy metals and with a very acid pH, our Customer’s washing water, in quantities of 10,000L produced daily, must be stored and disposed of by an external service provider, at an estimated cost of €100 per m3. In order to be able to discharge the cleaning effluent directly into the sewer in compliance with current standards, the NISKAE engineers wanted to offer their customer a powdered coagulation and flocculation formulation adapted to their needs.

In order to design the best customized flocculant formulation, our Customer sent us a sample of their treated water for analysis by our laboratory experts.

First of all, the water generated by their detergent and disinfectant manufacturing activity has a high daily volume, with a high presence of heavy metals, notably Copper (10.22mg/L), Zinc (25.40mg/L) and Iron (1.96mg/L), but also a low pH of 1.83, as well as suspended solids representing 0.25% of the solution volume.

Once the various tests had been carried out, a coagulant-flocculant complex adapted to our customer’s application was developed. A low dosage of only 1.5mg/L is required to treat process water rich in heavy metals, reducing the copper concentration to 0.02mg/L, the zinc concentration to 0.65mg/L and finally the iron concentration to 0.67mg/L. The pH was also neutralized to 8.40, and suspended solids were completely precipitated. Our coagulant-flocculant mono-reagent generates a quantity of sludge to be eliminated worth 30% of the initial volume to be treated.

Visually, the solution, which was yellow in color, has become clear, translucent and slightly yellow, with sludge accumulating on the surface. The quality of the sludge obtained makes it easy to filter and dewater.

Compliant discharge of cleaning water and guaranteed savings

Following analysis of the wash water sample supplied by our customer, NISKAE was able to propose a physico-chemical process with a low reagent dosage, which is easy to use. As a result, the company will be able to discharge its wastewater in full compliance with current standards and will no longer have to call in an external service provider, thus saving time and money.
