NISKAE brings its expertise for the treatment of several types of effluent

For more than 10 years, NISKAE has been making its mark in the field of water treatment and recycling. Operating on no less than four continents, the company supports industrial companies in the responsible, sustainable and efficient management of their wastewater, with unique equipment and products specially designed to meet the needs of its customers. Among the solutions on offer is the almost magic ingredient of effluent treatment: a coagulant-flocculant mono-reagent tailor-made for each industrial customer, whatever the nature or quantity of their wastewater.

A perfect example of NISKAE’s unique expertise can be found among all the customers who have already had the chance to test the company’s fidelity: an aeronautical manufacturer. In order to carry out its business, the latter uses a variety of processes on a daily basis, such as tribofinishing, penetrant inspection, vibroabrasion, ultrasonic cleaning and other different filtration devices, which result in high volumes of polluted water. Fortunately, and above all to meet customer demand, NISKAE has the solution to enable customers to recycle their wastewater and reuse it as washing water.

Having no other solution, and unable to discharge its effluent anywhere, our Customer had to store its wastewater in an underground tank before it was removed for disposal by an external service provider, for a substantial volume of 23,500 liters produced daily. This, of course, was before NISKAE was commissioned to lead its Customer towards better management of its wastewater, containing mainly polishing residues, heavy metals and suspended solids, thanks to the right reactive solution enabling effluent to be cleaned and recycled for reuse as wash water.

As mentioned earlier, the activities of this type of Customer involve complex mixtures of effluents which, unfortunately, often have no treatment solution in view of their large numbers of pollutants. What makes NISKAE such an ingenious and competent company, therefore, is its ability to analyze all types of wastewater and their mixtures, to find, where others would only propose partially adapted solutions, the one and only totally customized and appropriate product that will guarantee its Customers to perfectly achieve their objectives, whether it be to treat wastewater and discharge it in compliance with current regulations, or to lose nothing and recycle it, which represents a major asset for all industrial companies.

For this reason, the first step in the development of the custom-made coagulant-flocculant complex was the analysis of five different samples of our customer’s wastewater by our laboratory teams.

The first four solutions to be examined were tribofinishing, penetrant inspection, vibroabrasion and ultrasonic cleaning waters. These samples, which were white, yellow or grey in appearance, contained not only heavy metals such as Iron and Zinc, with average concentrations of 0.35 mg/L and 1.20 mg/L respectively, but also a high COD content of up to 8,036 mg/L! 

In a fifth case, the effluent mixture represented 50% penetrant water and 50% tribofinishing water, resulting in a fluorescent yellow solution, with a significant presence of Iron and Zinc, at concentrations of 0.16 mg/L and 1.21 mg/L respectively, as well as 3,280 mg/L COD.

Where the magic, or rather the know-how, comes in is that to treat all these different types of samples, only one reagent was needed. Yes, a single powdered solution to lower heavy metal concentrations to below or close to 0.01 mg/L, and COD to below 2,000 mg/L in most cases. In addition, suspended solids, which represented more than 1% of the total volume of each solution, were completely eliminated in the end. As for pH, the treatment had no effect on its value, which remained neutral before and after the addition of the reagent. In fact, all that was needed was to adjust the low concentrations of the powder produced, ranging from 0.5 g/L to 2.0 g/L, to obtain clear, clean, perfectly recyclable water in each sample, with easily dewaterable, non-sticky sludge for easy disposal.

Targets achieved and relative savings

Following the analyses carried out by our laboratory experts, and the successful development of a tailor-made flocculent mono-reagent for this customer, NISKAE once again proves its effectiveness in meeting customer objectives, whatever the nature of their effluent or industrial application. This physico-chemical process is also easy to use and maintain, with relatively short reaction times and low reagent dosages. The effectiveness of NISKAE’s flocculating reagent means that wastewater can be recycled, just as the customer wanted in this case. This solution, which can be of benefit to all manufacturers, not only represents economic progress, as it reduces water management costs, but also, and above all, environmental progress for a water-intensive industry.
